From the Pro ~ April 2020

Dear Members,

I hope everyone is well and safe during these times. Even though the 2020 Golf season has been off to a slow start, we must stay positive and look on the bright side that sunshine is upon us. Until we are fully back, I am going to postpone my weekly newsletter. All clinics and demo days in April from my previous newsletter will be cancelled. As of now, everything in May will still be on; subject to change and will be listed below. The Ligonier Golf Shop will be closed until further notice, but we are trying something new and going mobile. Please follow us on Social Media to see what products have arrived, will be arriving and anything else to brighten your day!

Corkcicle Whiskey Wedge

  • Update as of 3/26- I have 12 remaining

For those of you that admire whiskey and like it chilled, don’t you hate when the ice starts to melt, and your whiskey becomes watered down!? Well, let me introduce to you the Whiskey Wedge by Corkcicle. Even if you are not a Whiskey drinker, you may know someone who is, host parties or even need a Father’s Day gift.Whiskey Wedge

Each glass comes individually boxed with the etched Ligonier Country Club logo. This glass offers an artful way to chill your whiskey with a silicone ice wedge and lid for freezing. The ice is separated so as it melts, it will not encounter your whiskey! See picture of the wedge below.

  • Normal Retail Price with logo is: $25
  • The Knaus Special Price will be: $19 per glass or by 4 for $70

World Handicap Information- Changes you need to know for 2020

  1. You Handicap index may have changed under the new system

Your new index is now based on averaging your 8 best scores out of your most recent 20.

  1. Your handicap index will change daily.

We will not be posting sheets on the board outside daily but will have the information in the golf shop. We ask you utilize the GHIN app on your phone; free to download in the APP store. You may also post your scores from the GHIN app. It is essential to post your scores by midnight the day of play

usga <----- Logo you will see in the APP store

  1. Equitable stroke control is no longer. Net Double Bogey is the new system

The maximum hole score for each player will be limited to Net Double Bogey. The calculation is: Par (of the hole) + 2 + any handicap strokes you receive on that hole.

  1. Playing from different sets of tees

There will be no adjustment for players playing from different sets of tees. Par, course rating and slope are all a factor in your actual handicap. Whenever Par is the same from all tees, your course handicap will change based on the tee played but will not vary based on what tees your competitors are playing. The only adjustment that would happen is if players are playing from different Course Pars. It would only be the difference of PAR.

  1. Playing Conditions Calculation

Automatic, daily calculation that compares expected scores to actual scores and adjusts if needed. Example: If everyone plays on a rainy/cold day, scores may be higher than average, and the calculation will kick in for the next revision.

(Scores may be modified by subtracting 1 stroke up to adding 3 strokes)

  1. Number of holes needed to play for an 18-hole score & 9-hole score to be posted

-To post an 18-hole score you now must play and finish- 14 holes

-To post a 9-hole score it is still the same at- 7 holes

-For holes not played, your score is PAR plus any handicap strokes you would have received on those holes

-If you play by yourself, you are not allowed to post your score

Ladies Golf News ~ April 2020

To paraphrase Robert Burns, the best-laid plans of mice and women often go awry.

In February the Executive Board met with Bill Elliott, Bobbie Jo Farrell, and Sean Knaus to plan our calendar of events. Karen Hough worked on getting our information booklet ready. Barbara Sloan had a separate meeting with Sean to organize special games for the 9-holers. Darlene Elliott and Melane Baraniak devoted several days to improving the ambience of our locker room. JoAn Treskovich and Melane made plans for our opening dinner; stay tuned for the date.

All that planning and work has been washed away by the tsunami of the pandemic.

When the club house and course will reopen is an unknown. The Executive Board set the dues for 2020 at $65.00.  This was to cover the costs of our weekly Tuesday play, special events such as King & Queens, Friends Day, the Queen Bee and Lady Bug, and the Classic, and opening and closing day. The decision on dues is now under review until we know how many events will be played.

There are plans to encourage other lady club members to join us in enjoying the comradery of golf activities for women at LCC.  That invitation is still open when we resume play.

We can only hope that the situation will change sooner than later.  Meanwhile, stay safe and keep in contact with your friends.
