From the Pro ~ May 2020

Friday, May 1 2020; A day where we have never been so happy to say we can finally Golf. It comes at a perfect time though as the weather is getting warmer and the Golf Course is looking absolutely beautiful.

This newsletter would have had detailed information about upcoming events, but as you may have seen, all May and June events have been cancelled or postponed. We may not have these events upcoming but there is always something to talk about with the Golf operation. Below you will see information on score posting, hole-in-one club, the May Virtual Golf Bash and updated information on events and clinics. My assistant Jesse and I are looking forward to seeing everyone on the Golf Course and even we hope to get a round or two in.

Score Posting- GHIN

-SCORE POSTING WILL START ON FRIDAY, MAY 1

If you have been on the Golf Course or soon will, there are foam pool noodles protecting the cup. These are there so players are no longer reaching in the hole to remove their ball, minimizing possible exposure. So, the question is, can you still post your score if your ball is bouncing off a pool noodle and not going below the surface? The answer is YES. A round played under these conditions will result in an acceptable score for handicap purposes using the most likely score guidelines.

When using most likely score, the player should consider the number of strokes most likely required to complete the hole, and determine whether the ball would have been holed or not. Most likely score is at a player’s best judgement and should not be used to gain an unfair advantage.

This is also the perfect time to download the GHIN mobile app, where you can find your handicap as well as post your score. You will need your GHIN# to log into the app so please call the Golf Shop to receive your number.

Hole-In-One Club

The tradition of the Hole-One-Club at Ligonier will continue on and all funds from 2019 will carry over. There is currently over $800 in the pot and will be paid out (half cash, half Golf Shop credit) for the first hole in one. New for this year, whoever gets a hole-in-one and is in the club, will receive a hole-in-one plaque. Under current conditions we will not be able to start the club but as soon as the ball can go below the surface, we will start. The fee to enter will be $10 and will be billed to your member account. When someone gets a hole-in-one, you will automatically be billed to start a new fund. Please email or call me to sign-up or check if you are already in.

Golf Shop Sale

The Titleist ProV1/ProV1x, buy 3 get 1 free sale has been extended until May 17. This is also the first time Titleist is offering this sale with the option to do no personalization and still receive one dozen free. If you would like to place an order and discuss your options, feel free to call or email me.

Mother’s Day is quickly approaching and we all want to make sure Mom has that special gift. New Cutter & Buck hoodies or B-Skinz Skorts could be the perfect option. If you have something in mind, give us a call and we’ll do our best to have it arrive before Mother’s Day.

May Virtual Golf BashVirtual Golf Bash

The Virtual Golf Bash started fast and furious filling up my inbox with messages. If you have not purchased a ticket, we still have tickets available. One question I received was, do I have to watch the bash live to receive a prize? The answer is no, but we would love interaction and if you watch live, you have a chance to win up to $1,000 in Golf Shop credit by answering trivia questions. We look forward to this exciting event! Please see the flyer below for more information.

Upcoming Events, Fitting Days, Lessons & Clinics

All events scheduled in May and June have either been cancelled or postponed. The Winter Woes and Ladies Only Clinics scheduled in May have also been postponed with the hope to reschedule in June.

Golf Lessons, Club Fittings and Club Fitting Days are allowed under CDC Guidelines. These will have to be made by appointment only, on an individual basis and social distancing must still apply. At this time, the driving range is closed so more information will be available once we open the Driving Range.

If you have any questions about what’s listed above, have questions about new product or would like to order anything, feel free to call or email.

Warm Regards,

Sean Knaus, PGA
